Practical Info
Checked Bags & Carry-On
Check Aer Lingus baggage allowance for your fare type. Transatlantic flights typically allow 1-2 checked bags per person. Remember you'll be bringing back more than you came with (souvenirs, Walmart purchases).
MCO Airport
- Orlando International Airport (MCO) has a Rental Car Center connected by automated tram
- Terminal C is the newer terminal — check which terminal your flight uses closer to departure
- Allow 2-3 hours before departure for international flights
- US Customs & Border Protection pre-clearance is done in Dublin before departure — so you arrive into Orlando as a domestic passenger (no immigration queue on landing!)
Pre-clearance in Dublin: Because Aer Lingus uses US pre-clearance at Dublin Airport, you go through US immigration and customs before you board in Dublin. This means when you land in Orlando, you walk straight off the plane to baggage claim — no immigration queues. Allow extra time at Dublin Airport for the pre-clearance process (arrive at least 3 hours before departure).
Time Zones
- Ireland (IST/GMT+1): Irish Summer Time during your trip
- Orlando (EDT/GMT-4): Eastern Daylight Time
- Difference: Orlando is 5 hours behind Ireland
- If it's 2pm in Ireland, it's 9am in Orlando
- The kids will wake early for the first few days — perfect for rope drop!
Documents
- Valid passports for all travellers (check expiry dates — must be valid for the duration of your stay)
- ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) — required for Irish citizens travelling to the US under the Visa Waiver Program. Apply at esta.cbp.dhs.gov at least 72 hours before departure. Costs $21 per person and is valid for 2 years
- Travel insurance documents
- Driving licences (for the rental cars)
- Villa booking confirmation
- Printed/digital copies of park tickets and restaurant reservations
ESTA reminder: Every traveller (including children) needs their own ESTA. Apply well in advance — don't leave it to the last minute. If anyone has visited certain countries, a full visa may be required instead. Check the official ESTA site.
